Environmental and hormonal triggers are always a first thought. Suggesting they track the migraine headaches in a food diary typically helps patients document migraine frequency and severity. But food triggers are very patient specific and can be difficult to pinpoint.
Recognizing migraine/severe headache are chronic inflammatory conditions, reducing inflammation from all possible triggers only makes sense.
ALCAT identifies substances causing a cellular mediated reaction and inflammation.
The ALCAT meal plan will offer a patient-specific meal plan that includes foods that do not trigger inflammation. Keep in mind, trigger foods are: dose dependent, may have a delayed onset (4 - 72 hours), multiple foods may be the culprits, and there is no such thing as a migraine/headache universal bad food. Only food sensitivity testing provides patient specific answers.
The World Health Organization’s disability rating for migraine, ranks migraine as the 19th most common reason for disability.
Migraine sufferers use twice the amount of prescription drugs and visit doctors and emergency rooms twice as often as those who don’t have the disorder.
One study estimates the loss of productivity in the U.S. to be between $5.6 billion to $17.2 billion per year because of missed work. The average migraine sufferer misses two days of work per year. Some who suffer from persistent migraines work during a migraine attack, which they say lowers productivity.
It is estimated that migraines are the reason for 36 million days of bed rest, plus 21.5 million days of restricted activity. Not to mention the annual expense of medical appointments and medications.

TESTIMONIAL: Registered Nurse
As a nurse in the burn unit, I attributed my increase in headaches/migraines to stress, being tired and hormones. The frequency and severeness of my pain forced me to go on disability. I loved my job and hated that my co-workers could not count on me to show up. Over the years, I had sought treatment from specialists who ruled out everything possible and prescribed every medication imaginable - I had a pharmacy at home. I started acupuncture and that offered some relief, but only for a few hours. Being on disability was depressing. A friend suggested I see a Functional Medicine Nutritionist. She listened to my medical history and suggested the ALCAT test. I was skeptical because I eat a very healthy diet and felt I had already ruled out that food was not the problem. My insurance would not cover the test, but I was desperate and needed my life back. Voila, it appeared my healthy lunch of romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and fruit smoothies - plus several other foods I frequently consumed were the culprits. I followed the ALCAT Rotation Plan for a few weeks and became headache free. I was so excited to share the news with my manager who immediately went to work to get me off disability and back to work. I realize now all the things I thought used to trigger my migraines, don't seem to bother me. I now spread the word about leaky gut and inflammation and ALCAT testing!

"One middle-aged woman with chronic headaches discovered that the aspartame in her toothpaste was the culprit."
Headaches are global disabling conditions. In children and adolescents, headache has a suggested overall mean prevalence of 54.4% and migraine, 9.1%. These painful conditions, which include migraine, cluster, or tension headache, can occur in any part of the head.
Migraine is a neurological disorder with painful, sometimes disabling headaches. Often accompanied by gastrointestinal complaints, e.g. IBS, celiac disease, nausea and/or vomiting and sensitivity to light, noise, or smell, these throbbing headaches usually occur on only one side of the head, although the pain can shift from one side of the head to the other or occur on both sides at the same time. Migraines involve changes in chemicals and blood vessels in the brain, which trigger pain signals leading to headache and other symptoms.
Triggers include certain foods, medications, stress, lack of sleep, or even atmospheric changes . Eliminating exposure to these triggers may stop the headaches. A migraine headache typically lasts 4 to 24 hours but in some cases can last up to 3 days. Some people have visual disturbances, called a migraine aura, that occur before a headache starts. Migraine sufferers can have several headaches per month, or may go a year or more between incidences.
The ALCAT Rotation Meal Plan can provide the ideal nutritional guidance to avoid cellular defense reactions by avoiding foods that may be triggering migraine or headache.
